Box of Broadcasts (or BoB!)... 2 million TV and Radio broadcasts at your finger tips!

by Craig Martin on 2018-06-18T08:38:00+01:00 | 0 Comments

Box of Broadcasts (BoB) is a streaming service, that is constantly recording the major Freeview TV and Radio channels (BBC, ITV etc). BoB has a database of over 2 million broadcasts, which is searchable by date, title and channel - as well as locating a specific programme by subject.  BoB is another academic resource, that is often overlooked, but can be appropriate to use to discuss contemporary material when researching for assignments.

Much of the archive is instantly available, each with subtitles and transcripts (for TV programmes) and those which aren't immediately available, they can be requested and you'll receive an e-mail alert when it is ready to watch.

For those who are worried about referencing, underneath each broadcast there is the citation (however, do double check it meets the conventions of the reference system you are using, using Cite Them Right Online).  You can also easily embed the clips within blogs, Learn and from September, in our new Brightspace VLE.

There is an Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) so you can be alerted by e-mail when a programme is available in the future for viewing.

If you haven't already been tempted, have a look at BoB - You don't even need a TV licence and the service is available on and off campus.  However, for our students who are not based in the UK, please note that under the licence agreements, unfortunately you are not able to access BoB if you are outside of the UK (that includes if you fancy watching Eastenders on catch up, when on holiday in Greece!)

Take a look at the video below to find out how to search for materials, as well as our page for using BoB in more depth.
