Learning Services staff in Focus - Alex Stadler, Library Assistant.

My job as a Library Assistant is quite diverse! I provide support to visitors, students and staff in many areas related to all subjects available in the library and help them find the right books or the right person to speak with. I also deal with book processing, withdrawing old books and processing new ones, shelving and checking stocks, binding dissertations, fines, emails and many other things.

My role also involves dealing with a high number of IT inquiries. Just like my other library assistant colleagues I have my own personalised set of tasks that I do at the weekend – a dedicated library tidying area, collecting visitor feedback, processing and maintaining up to date posters and flyers in the library area.

My main interest area is students, as I was a campus officer, a mature student part of a minority, a mentor and a student library assistant in my time here at the University since 2013. Before this I did a bachelors and a masters in Economics in my home country, Romania.

Outside university life, I worked in the gaming industry and retail, and volunteered in well-known social and conservation charities. In my free time, I work at the Ipswich Hospital, volunteer with cats, travel and I am a video producer on Facebook with a 16k+ following which I hope to make my full time job in the future.
