“On Location” with Learning Services!

by Craig Martin on 2018-05-01T14:48:00+01:00 | 0 Comments

Learning Services have been on location in recent months, in the shape of a ‘Pop-up Library’!

You may have seen us around the campus in the Atrium, Waterfront Building and the Arts Block, and we have more of these type of events planned over the coming months.

Our Academic Liaison Librarian, Craig at our event in April 2018

The idea behind being on location, is to bring our services to you and to give you the chance to speak directly to us, without physically visiting the library.  On the stand you will meet your librarians, academic skills advisors, and other key staff and we will answer any queries you may have, from not being able to find a journal article you need for your dissertation, or advice on how to reference, to needing support on how to be more efficient with your time management.  If we can’t help you immediately, we will refer you to the relevant person or will ask for your contact details and will be in touch.

You can also pick up handouts and leaflets relating to referencing, academic skills, opening times and a whole range of information.  iPads are available to use, so we can get you booked in for 1:1 appointments or a workshop, or simply show you how to find reading lists, your subject guide or how to find a book using our discovery tool, Summon.  At past events we have helped students with improving their critical writing, book a study pod and how to obtain resources that are out of print.

We will be on location again very soon, so keep an eye out for our tweets or information on LEARN/Brightspace about where you will find us next - and we look forward to seeing you!  In the meantime, if you need to get in touch you can always contact us at learningservices@uos.ac.uk
