PASS: Three Tips from one of our PASS Leaders

Our PASS Leaders do more than just facilitate sessions for L4 students, they also have the opportunity to engage in other activities allowing them to contribute to student engagement such as blog writing. Here, our PASS Leader Fran reflects on her experience of PASS; as a student and as a PASS Leader.

Image of a student writingWhen I was in my first year at university studying English (before it was split in two) last year, I don’t think our class had a PASS Leader, or even about them. If we were unsure about an assignment or a specific module topic, we would have to ask each other or a teacher; it would have been nice and beneficial for us, I think, if we had had a PASS leader as it would mean that if we were stuck on assignment or didn’t fully understand a topic we’d have had someone who had already gone through it the year before to give us some guidance on them. This is the reason that I decided to become a Leader myself; I wanted to help those who started after me to have a point of contact and help who has gone through what they are going to and had to do the work they are now doing. There to help them become more confident on topics they’re not so sure on or enhance their knowledge and even help plan essays if they need it; a peer and maybe even a new friend, who knows the struggles they may be going through.

There are just three tips I have to share with any new PASS Leaders, or anyone thinking of becoming one who is a second or even a third-year student:

1.Have confidence in yourself, you can do this

2. Try to plan ahead as much as you can; if you have assignments or class projects due before or after the day of a session, you don’t want to be stressing over what to do in the session itself the day before

3.Have fun!
