Workshop Aims and Outcomes

This resource will take students through the process of analysing the given assignment & provide useful skills & understanding for assignment planning. The skills developed will equip the student with the ability to remain focused on the requirements & criteria of the assignment & the question posed.

This resource is primarily aimed at Level 4 students.

Aims

This resource aims to provide students with a greater understanding & ability to effectively unpack the task/assignment by mapping out the elements & requirements of the task/assignment.

Learning Outcomes

Be aware of essay/assignment instruction words.
Be aware of what information/sources are required.
Develop skills in creating an essay planning matrix
Have an awareness of other support routes for essay planning.

Information Literacies Competencies

B.1 Recognise the importance of using good quality information resources to complete an assignment.
B.2 Clearly identify and understand the assignment question or problem.
B.7 Identify appropriate keywords to find information on a particular topic and draft a basic search strategy.
B.18 Incorporate the information found into the assignment topic using appropriate methods. e.g. essay, presentation, report etc.

Employability Skills

2. (2.1) Self management - Plan personal work schedules.
4. (4.1) Problem solving - Develop a strategy for using skills in problem solving, for a shortterm routine problem and a longer term extended problem.
7. (7.1) Communication - Reading, selecting, analysing and synthesising information from a range of sources.
