Using e-resources: Literature online

Literature online (Lion) is a key resource for English literature providing access to a large range of resources.  Including critical journal articles, material from a range of reference sources, literary works and audio recordings of poetry and drama. 

Central to the resource and a great way to start searching is the author bibliographies. 

The resource organises itself into four key strands:

Authors  

  • Gives biographical details for each author listed and links to full-text articles and reference materials held within the database.

Texts

  • Access to a significant range of full-text material, from 600 onwards.  Of note are the sections 1830-1900 Victorian Literature and American Romanticism, 1900 to present and National and Regional Literatures.

Criticism

  • Offers access to full-text journal articles from relevant journals, access to New Essays on the American novel and Cambridge Companions series.

Reference

  • The reference section provides access to reference resources including Routledge Companions, A Shakespeare Glossary, Penguin Classics Introductions and a number of encylopedias.
