Learning Session Capture: Support

With the return of face to face teaching we are installing a one cable solution in large teaching spaces allowing you to record your lectures and seminars.

The process is very straightforward, you simply plug the 'Owl' into your laptop or the podium PC and select that has your camera, microphone and speaker within the Panopto browser/app. That is all you need to do, you then manage the space as you would normally.

If the Owl is not working properly

Most of the time that the Owls are misbehaving, they simply need to be unplugged and plugged back in. Follow these steps:

With the PC remaining on, unplug the Owl from the power socket (on the podium or wall, not on the Owl itself), and plug it back in.
Within about 30 seconds, the eyes on the Owl should flash, and it will make a noise to indicate that it is working.
If you had already started your Panopto session, you may need to select the correct audio and video sources.

If the above has not worked, check the default microphone and speaker settings for your device. How you do this depends on the device you are using.

You can also use this as an opportunity to request assistance with other useful activities such as using Padlets, Slido and Kahoots or other Brightspace tools to engage those in the room. You will however need to give 4 days notice minimum for us to be able to support these technologies.
