David Upson-Dale

Copyright and Research Information Advisor

I am the Copyright and Research Information Advisor within learning services.  I have been in this position for the last 3 years.  I previously worked as a library assistant at the university (starting in 2004)

I assist academics in producing digitised learning materials for their modules, I offer copyright guidance, audit modules for copyright compliance, assist students by producing materials for them based around any reasonable adjustments in place.  I also add student dissertations to our online catalogues.

I look after OARS (Open Access Repository Suffolk), offering guidance to staff covering depositing of materials, OA/REF requirements, I correspond with publishers to establish archiving permissions for research our authors have published with them, I am also involved in the development of a CRIS (Current Research Information System) in order to manage the fine details relating to all research produced at the university and to better highlight the strength of our research outputs.

Much of my work is strongly tied in with aspects of copyright, publishing and Open Access, and my expertise with regards to the legal aspects of these key areas is essential.  This is something I also take great pride in.

Prior to joining the university I completed a degree in design communication, I also have qualifications in graphic design and illustration.  Outside of work I am always engaged in a number of creative projects, most recently 3d printed toys and video game design.
