Binding is now available to all students and staff at University of Suffolk through Learning Services, located in the Library. There are two options available to you: self- service and .pdf printing. With Self-service, you are able to print and bind your work instantly; please look at option 1 for instructions how to use our binding machine. With our .pdf printing service, you are able to send our reprographics team your documents to be printed, however this can take anywhere up to 10 working days to be completed.
You can print off your own copies via any MFD copier on campus. Once you have your copies you can come into the Library and use our Self-Service binding machine.
How to use the binder:
1. Purchase the required size binding comb and number needed from the Helpdesk
2. Print off work to be bound
3. Make sure the black lever to the left of the binder is pushed back
4. Place the comb in between the notches. The pointed ends of the combs should be facing up and away from you
5. Pull forward the black lever on the left hand side to open the comb
6. Place work into binder in the paper entry slot to punch the holes. Make sure you place the left hand side of the front page into the slot. Make sure your work is parallel to the machine edge. Please note only do 30 pages at one time
7. Press the external pedal to punch
8. Starting with the front cover, place the punched pages onto the comb. Then add back page
9. Push back the black lever on the left of the binder to close the comb
10. Take out bound work
These instructions are also available by the binding machine for your reference. If you need help going through how to use the binding machine, please ask at the Library Helpdesk.

Option 2: .pdf printing - Staff Only
For larger jobs we may use an external printer; this is done on a case by case basis and at our discretion.
How to submit printing jobs:
1. Save your entire document in .pdf format
2. Submit it to the Reprographics team via email to reprographics@uos.ac.uk
3. When we have received your submitted form we will decide whether or not it is printed internally, or externally.
4.We will either internally print and bind your documents for you and send you an email confirmation when the work is ready to collect, or we will get a quote from an external printer and email you the quote for authorisation by your department. Once we have authorisation we will have the documents printed and the external printers will send the finished documents directly to you.
We will endeavour to complete work and have them ready for collection within 10 working days. Where work is required more urgently we will accommodate your needs where we can, but this is not guaranteed. At certain times of year we are extremely busy and turnaround times can be longer than normal depending on the volume of requests we are handling.
If you need to cancel a print please contact the Reprographics team straight away. Dependent on the stage of your printing job, will depend whether we will be able to cancel your job and refund you.

Learning Services also provides a Self-Service laminating machine. To use this please go to the Library helpdesk to purchase the laminating sheets you wish to use. You will then need to print off the material you wish to laminate via the MFD copiers and cut to size if necessary before laminating. The laminating machine is located in the Library just past the catalogue PCs.
How to use the laminator:
1. Purchase the required size (A4/A3) and number of laminating sheets needed from the Helpdesk
2. Turn on the Laminator to pre-heat it
3. Press the desired heat – 75, 100 or 125
Wait for the green light to stop flashing – it has then reached the desired heat.
3. Place the sheet of paper—pre-cut to shape and size - between the laminating sheet. Make sure there is a border of plastic all around the paper to seal it
4. Make sure there is nothing obstructing the back of the laminator so that the paper can feed through at the back
5. Place the paper into the laminator making sure you put the closed end of the laminating sheet in first
6. Wait until the laminator has fed the paper all the way through
7. Turn off laminator
If you need help on how to use the laminating machine, please ask a member of the Library Helpdesk staff. Please be aware library staff are only available between the hours 8:30 - 21:00 weekdays and 9:00-17:00 weekends.
