Web Accessibility & Guide Checklist (Internal LibGuides)

Introduction

This guide has been put together to make sure the content we offer on LibGuides to all of our visitors is released in a consistent and accessible format. Recent Government legislation now states that we need to make sure all of our public facing content adheres to 'Web Content Accessibility Guidelines' or WCAG 2.2. The specification allows us to design and create content in which anyone who accesses it with an assistive technology can do so without any issues.

Moving forward we should see any work maintaining these standards for both creating new guides and editing old ones as just good design practice, allowing anyone with any device to easily and effectively digest our content, regardless of any accessibility requirements.

If you would like any additional support outside of the following pages and tutorials please contact one of the Digital Learning Designers.

To begin, the best place would be to have a look at the 'General Guidance' menu item to the left. This will give you a basic understanding of the things that are required regardless of what you are adding in LibGuides.

Luckily where LibGuides or Brightspace is concerned, the platform will do most of the 'technical' specifications for us, but as content owners we need to make sure the content we add is accessible.

Next you can move onto the more specific areas in relation to the content you are creating or editing.

If you would like to know more about the current legislation you can find it on the Government Digital Service website.
