Managing Creativity by Davis, H.; Scase, R.The creative industries are a growing economic as well as cultural force. This book investigates their organizational dynamics and shows how companies structure their work processes to incorporate creative employees' needs for autonomy while at the same time controlling and coordinating their output. Research in television and radio broadcasting, publishing, advertising, the recorded music industry and the performing arts is used to show the variety of ways in which organizations respond to the creative imperative. The authors help to answer a larger question which has been neglected in theories of management and organizational behaviour, namely: what should replace the management principles and practices inherited from industrial society in the types of organization which predominate in post-industrial society? The arguments and evidence are made accessible to a multidisciplinary audience of students and researchers with an interest in the study of organizations as well as to managers in the creative industries.

Professionalism; the third logic. by Freidson, E.Eliot Freidson has written the first systematic account ofprofessionalism as a method of organizing work. In ideal-typicalprofessionalism, specialized workers control their own work, whilein the free market consumers are in command, and in bureaucracymanagers dominate. Freidson shows how each method has its own logicrequiring different kinds of knowledge, organization, career, education and ideology. He also discusses how historic and nationalvariations in state policy, professional organization, and forms ofpractice influence the strength of professionalism.
In appraising the embattled position of professions today, Freidsonconcludes that ideologically inspired attacks pose less danger toprofessionals' institutional privileges than to their ethicalindependence to resist use of their specialized knowledge tomaximize profit and efficiency without also providing its benefitsto all in need.
This timely and original analysis will be of great interest tothose in sociology, political science, history, business studiesand the various professions.
