The Nineteenth Century UK Periodicals collection contains more than two million pages of historic newspapers published between 1800 and 1900 in the United Kingdom. The collection covers a wide range of themes, and is relevant to historians and students of nineteenth-century literature and culture, empire, feminism, the history of the book, the creative and performing arts, sport and leisure, science and medicine, the professions, in short, of all aspects of nineteenth-century life that the press encompassed.
The Bibliography of British and Irish History provides bibliographic data on historical writing dealing with the British Isles, and with the British Empire and Commonwealth, during all periods for which written documentation is available - from 55BC to the present. The complete database now contains over 640,000 records, and is updated three times a year, usually in February, June and October.
As well as providing details of publications, the Bibliography provides links to help you find the items that it lists in research libraries, and it provides links to online text where available. There are also links to online book reviews and, from 2019 onward, the Bibliography has carried information about printed reviews of the books that it lists.

The British Library Newspapers collection contains full runs of 48 newspapers specially selected by the British Library to best represent nineteenth century Britain. This new collection includes national and regional newspapers, as well as those from both established country or university towns and the new industrial powerhouses of the manufacturing Midlands, as well as Scotland, Ireland and Wales. (Not included in Discovery)
Historical Newspapers is a searchable database that offers full text and full image articles for The Guardian from 1821-2003 and The Observer from 1791-2003 as they were originally published and printed. It provides access to the facts, firsthand accounts and opinions of the day about the most significant events of the past 200 years.
