Poster Presentations: Writing, Editing and Presenting

Writing, Editing and Presenting

Preparing a first draft of your poster is different from drafting an essay or report, as you'll need to consider the physical space available for you to use.

Editing means making changes to the content of the poster with a view to improving your argument, topic coverage and the flow of ideas.  Part of the editing process may involve cutting or reducing some aspects of your poster so that you can add to or develop other areas of it.  Try to avoid repeating yourself or including information that is not relevant.  Also, make sure that content is logically paragraphed (blocked together) and ordered systematically so that it flows and makes sense. It is important to leave plenty of time to do this so that you can make as many adjustments as you need to.

If you are required to print your poster, check with your department about:

  • Size requirements
  • Formatting requirements
  • Printing arrangements

If you have been asked to present your poster on-line, once again make sure you check with your department about any particular formatting, submission or presenting requirements.
