AI tasks: Summarising papers

Summarising and explaining

For this task, you will need to some example papers, which you can find and download at the bottom of this page.

1. Spend a few minutes testing the prompts provided in a generative AI tool of your choice.

2. Make a list of things you like and dislike about the generative AI outputs to the prompts.

 

3. Go to Scispace and select "chat with PDF" at the top right corner. Upload one of the example papers.

4. Use the chat or highlight parts of the text to ask Scispace to summarise or explain text.

5. Go to ChatPDF and upload one of the example papers.

6. Ask questions about the paper. Then highlight a section of text and select "explain".

 

7. Compare the generative AI, Scispace, and ChatPDF summaries and explanations. Which tools was most helpful?

8. Discuss whether tools like these could help speed up and prioritise your reading meaningful ways.

Who is the author?

When was it published?

Where was it published?

What are the key findings?

What were the methods (if stated)?

What the key theories of literature drawn on?

 

Spend a minute checking whether the summaries match up with the content of the papers. You might wish to use CTRL + F to find particular pieces of information to verify them.
