Accessibility

There is a lift to the library from the ground floor, in the Student Union Social Space. There is no lift access to the library from the Atrium Building, or to the Mezzanine level in the Group study area.

There are a range of study environments in the library to suit a wide variety of learner needs. Refer to the guidance here to find your perfect study spot.

Facilities

Accessible toilets can be found on both floors of the Library Building. On the ground floor, toilets are located just before the entrance to the Health and Wellbeing Building. On the first floor, toilets can be located near the Quiet Study area.

 

Lockers are available to loan for UOS staff, students and SCONUL members.

During term time, lockers are loanable for the full duration of a university term. Outside of term time, lockers are available on a day loan only.

Current : Lockers are currently on day loan only. Term time loan will be available from the September 1st. 

Locker keys are non-renewable and must be emptied and returned at the start of the holidays for audit and inspection.  You will receive email notifications at the point this item becomes overdue. Overdue locker keys incur a £5 fine and are non-waivable.  

You will also receive email notification at the point this item becomes 7 days, or long overdue. At this point you will receive charged a replacement fee as stated below. Please be assured that this replacement fee will be automatically waived upon return of "long overdue" items.

Monday-Friday the Student Union Shop is open on the ground floor offering a range of sandwiches, snacks and drinks. You can find water fountains throughout the library.

If you do bring food and drink with you to the library please ensure you comply with our Food and Drink Policy.

 

In case of emergency...

In case of emergency, the main stairwell is a designated refuge point and has an emergency call point. There are evacuation chairs at every stairwell and staff have been trained in their use.

There are First Aiders within the library team and all security staff on campus are First Aid Trained. There is a defibrillator and First Aid kit located at the Library Helpdesk. The First Aid phone number is 01473 338 888. In an emergency dial 999.
