How to Submit a Video Assignment Using Panopto

As we move to using the Panopto video platform, the way we submit video assignments will change. The guide below will help you to submit your video assignments with Panopto.

Video assignments take much longer to submit than regular assignments. Due to the large file size, they take much longer to upload. The video then needs to be processed before you submit it. Therefore, submitting a video assignment should never be left to the last minute. At the very least, you should submit the day before the assignment is due.

Submissions not submitted by the deadline due to IT issues, including upload speed, will not be grounds for an extension and work will be marked as refer (no work submitted).

Add Comments to Your Panopto Video Submission

Once you have recorded your video and are happy with your submission, you can go back and add notes to the discussion area of your video if that is required in your assignment.

  1. Go to your module, click on the Assessment tab, then choose Assignments from the dropdown menu.
  2. You will see the number of submissions you have made for the assignment under the 'Completion Status' column. Click on the link here to view your video submissions.
  3. These will usually be set up for the most recent video to be submitted. This will appear at the top of the list if you have submitted more than video. You can check that you are looking at the most recent submission by looking at the 'Date Submitted'.
  4. In the video player you will see a small arrow pointing to the top right. This will allow you to 'Watch in Panopto'. Click this and you will be taken to the Panopto viewer for your video.
  5. Click on the 'Discussion' tab and you will see a box where you can 'Post a public comment'. Here you can enter comments that your lecturer will be able to see. Your comments will be time-stamped according to where in the video you make them. Be sure NOT to use the 'Notes' tab as these are private to you.
  6. Your comments are saved automatically. When you have made all the comments you want to, you can close the window/tab.

Record Using Panopto Capture

When you have a video assignment to submit you may want to record your assignment within the Panopto platform. The simplest way to do this is by using the Panopto Capture tool. The guide below will help you to record using Panopto Capture.
