Evening and Weekend Guide

Your Role

Your role works within Library and Research Services and the wider Department of Learning Services to support the delivery of high quality, effective and efficient library services to the staff, students and external members of the University community.

Working as part of a small team of Library Assistants, your role primarily (but not exclusively) supports delivery outside of core service hours, which are Monday-Friday 08:30-17:00.

Responsibilities

Under the day-to-day supervision of the Graduate Trainee Librarian, you will be expected to: 

  1. Provide timely, high quality, front line service delivery including answering enquiries in person, by telephone, email and live chat. 
  2. Provide assistance in accessing and locating resources and advice on sourcing materials outside of the local collection. Explain and understand service policies in relation to the loan and access of resources.
  3. Complete a range of administrative tasks such as searching for missing items, collecting reservations, checking and emptying returns bins.
  4. Shelving and shelf tidying.
  5. Stock management, to include book/journal processing, cataloguing and mending as required.
  6. Communicate with colleagues in order to complete tasks efficiently without duplication, and resolve training questions as required 
  7. Be flexible and willing to complete a reasonable level of additional tasks as required 
  8. Work remotely during contracted daytime hours to complete a range of administrative tasks as required
  9. Work with wider Learning Services Team, and security teams to ensure that the library is a safe and secure place to study
  10. Attend training courses as identified and agreed for appropriate development. To include completion of all essential training modules.
